A lot of projects I’ve seen have a certain point where they seem to stall. The entire team gets less productive and it looks as if they simply ‘had it’ with the project itself. Once this situation occurs, there’s not much to do for a Project Manager but to create a new vibe. A fresh look upon the project.
What creates this situation? Have you encountered it before and how did you manage to move the team forward again?
In my humble opinion it all has to do with motivation and result. Most projects I’ve seen where this weird situation occurs, get there because the team itself hasn’t seen any progress for a while. Or, at least, real progress.
Small packages are, again, the answer. When we see results people tend to think ahead of themselves, create a new vibe of motivation and really want to create something.
All people like results and we all like ‘showing off’ a bit. Make sure team members get their moment in the spotlight, their fifteen minutes of fame. Let them. Let the team show off what they have achieved. Noting wrong with that.
Do you have any thoughts on preventing or moving ahead of this situation?
