In IT, or even ICT, we tend to look to the obvious: how do we get from A to B without any hassle? Or: in which way can we make sure that we know what to expect. This often means that we make the wrong choices, that we do whatever we did for the past decade in order to make sure we will not be surprised and that we know how much effort it takes to develop some functionality. When we tend to work in this way, we make sure that the real deal will not be met, and that is: developing applications the business really needs. Besides the obvious choices because of the things we know, we often make these choices although we know that it will not be good. We tend to develop any application as if we need to have them in operation for the coming decade. We even do this for almost every application we make. Big and unwieldy applications run among us. What’s wrong with an application that we just develop for the next few years, make them small and develop and deliver them fast. In the coming weeks I will talk a bit more about my thoughts on a thing I like to call ‘CreativITy’ some creative thoughts on software development.
